Experience the Luxury of Our Dried Abalone in Australia

Abalone is a gourmet delicacy with an exquisite flavour you simply have to try for yourself. With a unique buttery flavour like scallops and a similar texture to fine calamari, it is often served in high-end seafood restaurants.

Dried abalone has a long history in many cultures, particularly in Southeast Asia, where it is considered a delicacy. In ancient China, this delicacy was reserved for emperors and high-ranking officials, and was even used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat a range of ailments, from respiratory problems to joint pain and fatigue.

Today, dried abalone remains a sought-after delicacy around the world. You’ll usually find it served at banquets, weddings and other special occasions. Now, thanks to Ocean Road, you can enjoy it from the comfort of your very own kitchen and create a meal to remember. Try our exquisite range today

How to Cook Dried Abalone

To prepare dried abalone for cooking, follow this step-by-step guide:

  1. Rinse the dried abalone and place it in a container. Add enough clear water to submerge the dried abalone. During this period, change the water every eight hours and let it soak for 1-2 days.
  2. Transfer the soaked abalone to a pot and add water. Bring to a boil and then simmer over low heat for 30 minutes. Turn off the heat and let it cool naturally. Once cooled, change the water and place it in the refrigerator overnight.
  3. The next day, continue to boil the abalone. After boiling, simmer on low heat for 15 minutes and let it cool naturally.
  4. Put the boiled abalone in a container, add water, and cover with a lid. Refrigerate and let it soak for another day.
  5. To prepare a stew, use the soaking water as the base. Place the abalone in a casserole with your desired meat and seasonings. Add enough water or broth to cover everything. Bring to a boil and then simmer over low heat for 8-10 hours or until the abalone is cooked to your liking.
  6. Once cooked, the abalone can be sliced and served as a stand alone dish or added to other dishes for added flavour and texture.

To maintain its excellent quality, prior to cooking it’s important to store it in a sealed container in a dry, cool area out of direct sunlight.

Sustainably Grown and Packaged

100% Australian grown, our dried abalone pieces are sustainably produced from our 4-year-old live abalone at our farm in coastal Port Fairy, Victoria.

Here at Ocean Road, we are proud of the supreme quality of our abalone, and take pride in producing a world-class product for you to enjoy. The water conditions along the coast of Port Fairy are exceptionally pure, helping us to ensure a premium quality product.

Making good quality dried abalone requires healthy abalone and sophisticated drying techniques. We achieve a high degree of dehydration (a water activity Aw lower than 0.6), ensuring the product quality.

At Ocean Road Abalone, we have a strong focus on sustainability, as demonstrated by our use of eco-friendly packaging materials and our recent commissioning of a 250kW ground-mount solar PV system. This system has reduced our energy consumption and carbon emissions by 31% annually.

When you order from Ocean Road Abalone, you can rest assured you are supporting a brighter future for our oceans.
